I met our man Alton Saturday afteroon, uploaded the picture (feel free to start a food fight in the event I am not allowed to post pictures)....He is such a kind man, very funny, and so polite! Most book signings I been to, the author stays behind his/her counter/table: I'm glad Alton was brave enough to leave the security of the counter....

Re: Meeting AB
Mon, June 6, 2005 - 11:19 PMWas it just a book signing, or was there a talk or discussion beforehand? -

Re: Meeting AB
Tue, June 7, 2005 - 6:48 AMIT was a book signing, and demonstration, as well as food samplings, wine tastings: I did not venture to the stage where he was fielding questions and answers as I did not want to lose my place in the signing line. I know how ruthless people can be in a signing line which does not require wrist-bands. My sisters went up to watch him preparing some sort of cake: they had hoped it would have been served to those of us standing in line.... -

Re: Meeting AB
Wed, June 8, 2005 - 9:03 AMcan i aks where this was? and if you mentined it and i just missed it, "my bad".
I'm kinda having a "blond bikini wearing bimob" moment these days.
Aspen or Vail has a summet on Food this summer, with Jacques Torres (who i like even more than Alton, but not cause of personality but food topic) doing a chocolate demonstration. I'd die to go, but it's like 2 grand. I'll just live vicariously though you meeting alton. ;-) -

Re: Meeting AB
Wed, June 8, 2005 - 10:39 AMIt was Indianapolis.
Jacques Torres does the most wonderfully creative things with chocolate, doesn't he? Two Grand!! WOW! The cost would include samples, wouldn't it?
Keep an eye out in your local paper for book signings, etc: That's how I discovered Alton was going to be in my area (actually, I would have driven to Chicago to see him--I've done goofy crap like that before)...

Re: Meeting AB
Wed, June 8, 2005 - 12:15 PMIt's some fancy chefing thing in Vail or Aspen. and teh entire weekend is 10,000. if you do the entire weekend, you get to go to *any* of the shows for *free*. But if you pay *by demo*, it's 500-2000 depending on if you want to *just watch* or you want to participate.
and yes, all has food tasting. :-)
the 10,000 main fee includes 6 or 9 (3 a day, but i don't know how they do friday) full course meals, and whatever you want from the various "demos". :-)
it's also part of a huge wine expo, also *free* if you paid teh 10 grand.
i'll try to find teh link, just to let us all drool over what we *could* do if we were that rich. :-) -
