Hi. I'm new to the tribe. I love Good Eats. I always learn something new. I also live on Alton Brown's turf. I used to work the entertainment beat for his local newspaper and one of the stories we pitched doing would have involved me getting to interview him. Unfortunately it was shot down. Oh, well. Guess we can't all get in person food tips and facts. But I do think it's pretty neat that the markets he goes to in his show are the same ones I shop at.

I love his cook book. i learned to make a roast, and do so PEFECTLY every time.
even though i can "cook" well, i never knew the chemistry behind cooking, and why some methods are better. He is full of things like "salting pasta isn't just urban legand or cook habbit, ti's cause it does this and that to the water which does this and that".
:D
I learned to make better frosting, omelts, you name it, just cause i started paying attention to teh "why" and not just the "how" -

I also have noticed a definite imrpovement to my cooking since I gained a better understanding of the chemistry behind it. I used to just add flour to thincken a sauce, not anymore though. Say goodbye to gritty gravy!
Yup ... AB's an addictive guy. I like him on Iron Chef, Feasting on Asphalt, and especially GE!

My b/f and I are HUGE fans of AB, and have been since day 1, pretty much. Being both science and food fans we really enjoy the crazy shows and interesting new insights we get. We are currently in the process of purchasing all of the DVDs of the shows (we currently have about 1/2 of the collection).
Someday I hope to meet him in person... ::sigh::
