I think I might get myself these someday, rather than go to cooking school.

In the end, it would probably be just as expensive, what with all the necessary tools and gadgetry..

It definitely is---the only place you can order them is off of the Food Network website. I have one set and I like them a lot--Alton also does a question answer session at the end of each episode.

There are a number of DVD sets available at the Food Network website. My wife got me a couple of sets as a gift last christmas.

Each DVD contains three episodes which are roughly linked by topic (baking, desserts, grilling, etc.) and also contain a Q-A with Alton regarding each of the episodes.

I bought the Tale of two Roasts which has a great feature of how the show is done as part of the DVD in addition to two versions of the show and Altons narration on the program.

Last year when my taxes came in, I bought a set of nine DVD's. Some would call them a bit spendy, but I think they are worth it. Sometimes I watch them just for the entertainment value.

I watched the christmas cookie episode on Dec. 25th. He taught santa how to make them, and it seemed appropiate for the day.

Okay, Good Eats on DVD is worth it just to watch Alton. Period.

        Alton is like my salt.

aww.. I want to name my son after him. Our last name is Brown.. If we have a boy, my husband gets to name him, and so far the options are Anakin and Julius.. Not really my kind of names!!

I saw these sets in our local Target the other day, so they seem to be more widely available now, but I forgot to note the price there. We do tivo the shows, but it might be nice to get the dvds just for the quality, and it sounds like there is extra material. Alton is just great, my favorite cooking show ever.

The extra material is good. But as Irecall not filled with the demos, just him reading letters and explaining. But I think that is off of the first few DVD's. I have to confess, I have not gotten the more recent ones. His book, 'I amjust here for the food', is awesome. Organized by method than by ingrediant or recipe. A very, "here is compass and heres how to use it, now gofind your way," kinda directions. Its good.

Thanks! I wll have to look into that one, it sounds good (of course, any Alton cookbook would be good). For viewing, I will just stick with the Tivo. There is always something on the list, and if it is not one I want to repeat, I can just delete it, but a lot of them are worth repeating every now and then, to remind me I really wanted to try those beets, etc ...

Does anyone know if these are coming to Netflix anytime soon? I'd rather not buy the DVDs and for a variety of reasons I don't have cable. ..mostly because I don't find the price worth it for the obscene amount of obnoxious advertising the Food Newtork bombards it's views with. =)
